Truss Uplift

What in the world is truss uplift?

Basically, it's when the frame of your roof starts pulling up and away from the walls of your house.  It looks a little something like this in the winter.  How do they fix it?  I have no clue but the google does and I guess so does my builder.  TBD.

Silver lining and another German thing

There is always a silver lining.  We had some structural issues with our home and so they needed to reinforce the subfloor in our bathroom.  How did we know?  The grout kept crumbling and the tiles were shifting.  Oh, brother.  They tried to replace tiles.  They tried to re-grout and they tried to re-grout again.  Grout.kept.crumbling.  Imagine my husband who is a German engineer.  My friend who has experience building said it was probably a combination of a bad installation job and the floors bouncing.  Anyways, during the fix our builder wanted to try to salvage our original tiles and just replace what was necessary but then we discovered our tile was discontinued.  This means mama gets to pick new tile! 😍

It's not completely done but here is a sneak peak.

Also, speaking of my husband who is a German engineer.  This story is totally unrelated but I thought this was so funny.  Ready?  So I get common sayings, idioms, phrases, cliches, etc wrong pretty consistently.  (This drives Grant crazy.)  Anyways, I found that I can pretty much ask google anything I want so I ask google about these phrases/idioms/cliches pretty consistently before confidently opening my mouth (or typing on my little iphone).  While talking to my sisters (via Facebook messenger) about the election, I couldn't remember that phrase, "if you throw enough shit against a wall, some of it has gotta stick."  So I plugged a few of those words in to the google and this came up.  Some guy asked some forum if there was a "faithful translation" of this phrase in German?  Anyway, some other guy (starblue) replied and said, "I think the concept is too un-German to have an associated saying.  Germans presume that everything has to be carefully planned and executed to succeed".  I die.  Even when I try to google random, stupid sayings some human out there on the interweb infiltrates my search results to tell me how un-German that phrase is.  😂

Ying and Yang

How are Grant and I different?

Our grout kept crumbling in our bathrooms and our builder kept bandaging the problem.  Finally, they decided that the floors were moving and they needed to pull the tile up.  Our tile was discontinued so we needed ALL new tile.

Grant: I don't want to mess with it.  What a pain.
Deb: Awesome!  So maybe they didn't do it right the first time but now we get all new tile!  Happy Dance!  Let's get everything fixed, Grant!!

And then they started tearing apart our bathroom.

Deb: What in the world.  I had no idea what we were getting in to.  Why did we do this!?
Grant: Isn't it great, they're fixing it and we get new tile.

I guess if we were exactly the same we would never accomplish anything, would we?

Crumbling tile...
